Annual mass marriage ceremony 2014 to be held on March 30

The annual mass marriage ceremony of 23 couples will be held under the banner of Minhaj Welfare Foundation at Minhaj University, Township campus, on March 30. Distinguished people belonging to various walks of life will attend the ceremony. The arrangements of the ceremony have entered final phase. Over 900 girls belonging to poor households have been married off so far in various mass marriage ceremonies held under the aegis of MWF. It needs to be mention that sponsoring marriages of the girls of poorest of the poor segments of society is a flagship programme of MWF that was launched under the special directions of Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri. The idea was to lighten up the burden on the poor parents who are unable to marry off their daughters of marriageable age due to poor economic conditions.

These views were expressed by Syed Amjad Shah, Director of Minhaj Welfare Foundation, while talking to heads of various administrative committees in the central secretariat of MQI.

MWF Director said that the daughters of the poor parents often became old for want of resources to sponsor their marriages, which had become quite a costly affair, given price hike, inflation and evil custom of dowry involved. He said that in order to find a solution to this social scourge, MWF had been holding mass marriage ceremonies for last many years in which every bride was gifted household stuff of worth Rs. 1.5 lacs plus sponsored marriage feast of 60 guests. He said that central mass marriage ceremony was held once a year while district and Tehsil chapters continued to organize similar ceremonies throughout the year. He said that non-Muslim couples were also married off among the mass marriage ceremonies whose marriage rites are performed according to their religious teachings. He said that congregational marriage for 2014 would be held at 11 am (Sunday), on March 30.
