Protection of minorities a state’s responsibility: Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz
The sudden surge of price hike ahead of the advent of the Holy month of Ramadan has created more problems for people who were already hit by deteriorating law and order situation, load-shedding and rising inflation. He said it was hoped that the rulers would take urgent measures to provide relief to the hike-stricken people, but they are busy in playing political games and scoring points on each other.
These views were expressed by Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz, senior Vice Secretary General of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, during his interaction with the journalists the other day. He was accompanied by Jawad Hamid and Bilal Mustafi. He said that the government was neither interested in addressing the hike issue nor was it so concerned with the national esteem and honour. The sudden surge in prices of sugar and other food items ahead of start of the holy month of Ramadan would result in unbearable difficulties for the poor during the fasting month. He said that it was the responsibility of the government to make necessities of life easily available during the month of Ramadan. He demanded of the government to immediately pay attention to this problem.
Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz also urged the government to make fool-proof security arrangements during the blessed month so that no untoward incident takes place. Replying to a question about the Gojra tragedy, Senior Vice Secretary General said that the protection of the minorities was the responsibility of the state. He said there was need to bring the culprits of this tragedy to justice by allowing law to take its course. “We need to show restraint and express our response in lawful manner, for the country does not afford it internationally,” he maintained.
He said that the doors of the central Mosque Minhaj-ul-Quran were open for the worship of the Christian community on the special instructions of Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri. Islam does not allow anyone to take law into his hands. The system of courts is there to impart justice to the wronged people. Paying tribute to the Christian community, he said that the Pakistani Christians played their positive role in the national development. Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz said that MQI condemned the Gojra carnage in the strongest possible terms. As an expression of solidarity with the Christian community, MQI would organize a seminar in connection with the Gojra incident on August 13 in the Central Secretariat of the organization, which will be attended by important leaders of different communities.
