The Divine Connection: Understanding Your Relationship with Allah

The highest aim and objective in the life of a Muslim and a believer is to meet Allah سبحانه وتعالى)) in a state where Allah is happy with them. Shaykh Hammad Mustafa al-Madani al-Qadri
If my servant walks towards me, I do not merely walk towards him but according to the station of Allah, I run towards my servant. Shaykh Hammad Mustafa al-Madani al-Qadri

Introduction:

The essence of faith in Islam is not merely a collection of rituals but a deeply personal and dynamic relationship with the Creator. At the heart of this connection lies a profound Hadith Qudsi where Allah declares, “I am with my servant as he or she thinks of me”. This revolutionary concept shifts the focus from a distant, transactional deity to a merciful and responsive Lord who mirrors the expectations, trust, and positivity of His servant. Understanding this philosophy is the key to unlocking spiritual growth and achieving the ultimate goal of a believer: meeting Allah in a state of mutual love and pleasure.

A Direct Path to God:

Unlike many historical religious systems where a clergy or priesthood held a monopoly over forgiveness and divine access, Islam offers a purely egalitarian relationship. Believers are not required to seek intermediaries or pay for absolution. Instead, Allah has opened direct channels of communication, inviting every individual to speak to Him in seclusion or in congregation. This directness ensures that the path to mercy is never blocked by human authority, but rather remains a personal journey of the soul.

The Mirror of Perception: Thinking Well of Allah:

Our mental state and expectations (Husn-e-Zann) (حُسنِ ظن) define our experience with the Divine. If a servant maintains a relationship based on trust, reliance, and positivity, they find Allah to be exactly as they envisioned, Merciful and Compassionate. This connection is so intimate that when a servant remembers Allah in private, He remembers them in private; and when they remember Him in a gathering, He remembers them in a superior gathering of angels and righteous souls. The channel of communication is always open from the Divine side; it is often the servant who creates the obstacles.

The Divine Response: Walking Toward Infinite Mercy:

Allah’s desire for proximity to His servant is far greater than the servant’s effort toward Him. The sources describe a beautiful progression of divine responsiveness: if a servant comes near by a hand-span, Allah comes near by an arm’s length. Most strikingly, if a servant starts walking toward Allah with the ambition to please Him, Allah does not merely walk but “runs” (accelerates) toward His servant. His doors of compassion, love, and forgiveness are perpetually open, waiting for the servant to overcome neglect and return to the path.

From Station Two to Station One: The Ultimate Ambition:

A believer’s life should be a conscious journey from being lost in worldly distractions to desiring the meeting with their Lord. Currently, many reside at “Station Two,” where worldly professions and difficulties make them unprepared or hesitant to meet Allah. The goal is to move to “Station One,” where every action, be it kindness to family, transparency in business, or a simple smile, is driven by the desire to meet Allah. When a servant truly desires to meet Allah, Allah reciprocates that desire with glad tidings of His own love for that meeting.

Conclusion:

The core message of this discussion is that our relationship with Allah is fundamentally shaped by our own perceptions and intentions. Islam teaches that there are no barriers or intermediaries between the Creator and the creation, and the doors of mercy and forgiveness are always open to everyone. If we manage to step away from worldly distractions and take even a single sincere step toward Allah, He responds with divine acceleration, “running” toward us in a manner that befits His Majesty. Ultimately, the highest goal of a believer's life is not merely the luxuries of Paradise, but to meet their Lord in a state where He is pleased with them and they are longing for His proximity.
