Arrogance Is the Greatest Disease of the Self: Prof. Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din QadriAvoid Self-Display, Self-Admiration and a Sense of Superiority: Chairman MQI Supreme Council
Refusing to accept the truth and being unable to tolerate criticism are signs of arrogance
Declaring oneself right and others wrong in every matter is also a form of arrogance

Chairman Supreme Council Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Prof. Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, attended and delivered a special address at the monthly Majlis-e-Khatm-us-Salat Alan-Nabi ﷺ, held at Jamy Shaykh-ul-Islam. He said that arrogance is the greatest disease of the self. Satan was cast away from divine grace because he was consumed by pride over being created from fire. Self-display, self-admiration and a sense of superiority are diseases of the inner self, while Allah Almighty loves those obedient servants who adopt humility.
He said that just as cleanliness of one’s outward appearance is essential, purification and reform of the inner self are equally necessary. The monthly Majlis-e-Khatm-us-Salat Alan-Nabi ﷺ is a precious gift from Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, providing an opportunity for spiritual purification through remembrance of Allah, love, closeness to Him and spiritual training.
Prof. Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that moral decline begins with ego, whereas goodness is rooted in collective spirit and sincerity. Refusing to accept the truth because of one’s ego, being unable to tolerate criticism, responding to correction with anger instead of self-reform, and considering oneself superior to others may all be signs of arrogance. However, he clarified that not every expression of self-confidence constitutes arrogance.
He said arrogance emerges when a person readily criticizes and seeks to reform others but begins making excuses when it comes to his own reform. He added that despite extensive educational, training and scholarly services, a continued sense that one has not fully fulfilled the responsibilities of being a student can lead a person towards humility and a lifelong commitment to learning.
He said that if inner diseases are not addressed in time, they continue to grow. When the flame of divine love is kindled in the heart, a person begins to place the pleasure of the Beloved above his own ego and desires.
Addressing the youth, he advised them to live in the world without allowing the world to take possession of their hearts, and never to make worldly life their ultimate purpose.
