PAT delegations calls on senior PPP leaders
A high-level PAT delegation led by Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur had a meeting with the Opposition leader Syed Khursheed Shah, Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood and Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo at the residence of PPP Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo. Khurram Nawaz Gandapur extended an invitation to Syed Khursheed Shah, Mian Manzoor Wattoo and Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood to attend an APC being convened on the Model Town tragedy, which they accepted.
The APC will be held in the last week of March and the final date in this regard will be approved by Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri. The PAT Secretary General apprised the PPP leaders in detail on the latest situation of the Model Town case. He told him that the Punjab government appointed a judicial commission to probe Model Town tragedy, which held the government responsible for the massacre. He said that instead of taking action in the light of the JC report, the government instituted a JIT of its liking and got a report of its choice from the JIT.
Khurram Nawaz Gandapur further informed that one-sided proceedings are underway in the anti-terrorism court now and important evidences are being recorded in the absence of the PAT lawyers. He said that this is the only case of Pakistan’s history in which the complainants have been made accused and the heirs of the martyrs are made to stand in the courtroom for hours. He said that the court did not summon even a single person from the list of the main accused nominated in the FIR.
He said that the anti-terrorism court, which is remote-controlled by the government, is murdering justice. He said that the opposition parties, media and human rights organizations should monitor the one-sided trial in the anti-terrorism court. He said that contacts have been established with Jamaat-i-Islami, Tehreek-i-Insaf, Sunni Tehreek, PML-Q, MQM, Sunni Ittehad Council, Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen in connection with APC and the all parties have shown willingness to attend the APC.
