A very positive step has been taken by Dr Tahirul Qadri. He has issued a 600-page fatwa against suicide bombing, something that should have been done much earlier. One wonders why other ulema in Pakistan stay mum over the suicide blasts across the country. No one speaks against them. No one dares to say that suicide bombing is against Islam, the text of the Quran and the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The ulema possess the most effective medium of communication — the mosque. They can promote non-violence and peace with suitable quotations from the Quran.

I urge all the ulema to unite on this decree and encourage impressionable minds to not pay attention to hate mongers and terrorists.
