Nation : Debate on Fatwa against terrorism held

Published: March 16, 2010

LONDON (APP) - The UK’s first community debate on the Fatwa against terrorism was held at the East London locality of Walthamstow, a pre-dominant Muslim neighbourhood.

The event held Sunday at Walthamstow Town Hall provided a unique opportunity to the local community with the chance to discuss the recently launched Fatwa condemning terrorism and suicide bombers, with faith leaders and Shaykh Hassan Mohiud Din Qadri, the son of leading Islamic scholar, Dr Muhammad Tahirul Qadri, who launched the Fatwa here on March 2nd.

Shaykh Hassan explained the religious and theological arguments behind the Fatwa to local community members, as well providing them with an opportunity to find out how the Fatwa will have a direct impact on local communities across the UK.

The Fatwa shows how suicide bombings and terrorism totally contradicts Islam and comes at a critical time in the wake of recent massacres of innocent citizens in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

He said the Fatwa is the most comprehensive analysis of the issue of terrorism that has been published in the UK, and provides robust religious evidence, based on Quranic verses and Prophetic traditions, to clarify the Islamic viewpoint on the atrocities committed by terrorists.

Quoting Dr Tahirul Qadri, he said: “Terrorists and extremist organisations are brainwashing our vulnerable youth, excusing their evil atrocities through misguided politics. They indiscriminately kill innocent people - both Muslims and non-Muslims - and cause destruction with foul intention, not just to Islam, but to humanity”.

“It is important that all Muslims stand up to the actions of this minority and I hope they will now feel confident to make their voices heard and openly condemn them in the strongest possible terms, unequivocally and with one voice, now is the time to unite at every level.”
