The second session of the Majlis-e-Shura of MQI was held on July 4, 2010. The chief highlight of this session was the special telephonic speech of Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri that he delivered live from London. Shaykh-ul-Islam’s keynote speech
Speaking on the aftermath of attack on Data Darbar, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri said that parliament has failed completely in discharging its role and is responsible for the mess the country is in. Media is doing the agenda setting, which is otherwise the role of parliament. He demanded the establishment of Commission against Terrorism under the leadership of Chief Justice of Pakistan. He said that media should raise its voice against a system, which is protecting corruption. He regretted that there is no shortage of so-called religious scholars who justify the actions of terrorists. It is also responsibility of media to expose the supporters, financers and sympathizers of terrorists and extremists. He demanded that parliament should meet for two weeks to legislate on the terrorism issue for its complete elimination. He said that it is a common knowledge as to identity of backers and intellectual supporters of terrorism.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri said that those protecting the terrorists are present in the parliament and media should hold the politicians accountable for their actions and inactions. He demanded that the sources of support and supply of arms and ammunition should be unearthed. He asked about the outcome of the investigations carried out into scores of incidents of terrorism and sought the invisible hand to be exposed.
Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri criticized the role of parliamentarians, saying that MNAs and MPAs know everything about terrorists in their constituencies but are maintaining criminal silence due their vested interests. He blasted the inaction of the parliament and said that the country is being turned into Somalia, Ethiopia and Afghanistan and those entrusted with the responsibility of steering the ship of the state are keeping mum. He said that the politicians have neglected the national interest for the sake of their petty interests.
Shaykh-ul-Islam said that the monster of terrorism has destroyed the country and no place such as Markets, Bazars, Public places and Shrines are safe from the evil actions of terrorists. He said that when politicians break record of corruption, it paves the way for military takeovers. General Musharaf compromised on national honor, security and interests and turned the country into a colony. He warned the ruling elite of the day when people would take to the street and nothing would be left. He said that MQI is against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and it condemns terrorism in the strongest possible words. He said that those shedding innocent blood are neither Muslims nor Pakistanis. He demanded of the government to crush down terrorists wholly.
After the conclusion of keynote speech of Shaykh-ul-Islam, the Majlis-e-Shura of MQI adopted a unanimous resolution that covered national and international issues and condemned the recent wave of terrorism.
Text of unanimously adopted Resolution
- The Data Darbar tragedy constitutes the blackest chapter in the history of Pakistan.
The participants condemned the attacks in the vehement terms and held the federal
and provincial governments responsible.
- Those who are attacking the shrines are beasts, not human beings and those who
have allowed them free hand are national criminals.
- The proposed National Conference would not be able to achieve its results unless
both federal and provincial governments gave up their policy of doublespeak and
committed themselves to taking on terrorism in the larger national interests.
- Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has offered practical guidance to
the government by dubbing the terrorists as Khawarij in his historic Fatwa. If the
government chooses to implement the findings of the Fatwa, it can get rid of terrorism.
- The Shura also condemned the social networking websites for posting blasphemous
sketches of the Holy Prophet (SAW) on the internet. It demanded of the government
to ensure the implementation of international rules and regulations in that regard
and mobilize the Muslim community for elimination of cyber terrorism.
- Israel also came in for severe denunciation due to its siege of Gaza strip and
attack on the Freedom Flotilla. The participants demanded of the global powers to
rein in Israel.
- The government was held responsible for the rising trend of suicides and the
official insensitivity was criticized.
- The Shura noted with concern that price hike of electricity, petrol and gas at
the behest of IMF was beyond understanding especially in view of the fact when China
and Iran are ready to offer cheap electricity.
- The government was asked to bring down the escalating prices by providing subsidies on the necessities of life and the present pricing should be frozen with a view to facilitating the poor people.
The two-day session of the Majlis-e-Shura concluded on July 4, 2010 at 4 pm followed by lunch.
