If a nation gets the leader of the Quaid-e-Azam’s stature, commitment and iron will power, it can rise to height but if the leadership crisis persists even after the passage of 64 years, that continues to pose a peril to the country’s integrity and survival. No ruler ever paid his attention to the long-term reform of the country’s institutions and processes and instead expended his energies on enriching himself and creating political monopolies in the corridors of power. The game of musical chairs between civilian and military rulers has robbed this nation of their inalienable right to be governed by their true representatives.

Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi, Secretary General of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, expressed these views while addressing an intellectual sitting on the subject of national politics with a select group of senior students of Minhaj University. He also answered various questions of the students.

Dr Raheeq Abbasi lamented the fact that corruption has permeated our entire body politic and the no development project gets completed without the approval of the corruption mafia, which is eating into the vitals of our state and society. He said that systems established to conduct accountability have spawned more corruption and the culture of winning horses has rendered the notion of democracy ridiculous. He asked the people especially the youth to play their due role in bringing about a change. “Without their active role, this state of affairs would continue unabated. If we have to stem this rot, we need to take matters in our own hands and stop playing passive role,” he concluded.
