LONDON: Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, one of the leading Muslim scholars of the world, has announced that he will issue a global declaration against terrorism in all its form at a major conference in Wembley Arena on Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference here, Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said he will issue the declaration at the ‘Peace for Humanity Conference 2011’ at the sell-out Wembley Arena, where thousands from across Europe have arrived. A collective peace prayer by representative of all major religions will also be performed.

The founder of the broad-based moderate Minhaj-ul-Quran International, who has received death threats from various radical Islamist groups, has vowed that he will continue to work for the promotion of moderate Islam and threats will not deter him.

His organisation has been granted UN special consultative status in July. Dr Qadri issued a fatwa against terrorism at a conference in London sometime ago and received praise worldwide. The scholar lives permanently in London and Canada and has a bounty of millions of rupees on his head.

The fatwa at the Wembley Arena conference will help remove confusion between Islam and the West and it has also helped avert the clash of civilisations, claimed Dr Qadri.

The Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Archbishop of Canterbury will also address the conference via a video message.
