Prof Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri delivers keynote speech at 6th International Conference on World Religions

6th International Conference on World Religions - ICWR 2023

Professor Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri delivered a keynote speech at the 6th International Conference on World Religions, on the subject of "Eco Criticism, The Islamic Perspective." During his address, he stressed the importance of discussing environmental protection in the context of religion, highlighting that religious convictions are vital in motivating individuals to protect the environment. Government regulations alone cannot ensure compliance; personal commitment rooted in one's religious beliefs plays a significant role.

In terms of recommendations, Dr. Hussain Qadri underscored the significance of aligning environmental efforts with the teachings of Islam, Islamic literature, and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He emphasized the following principles for addressing environmental issues:

The conservation of the natural environment is both a moral and ethical imperative.

Environmental problems cannot be solved by knowledge and technology alone.

Enlightened self-interest does not encourage people to go beyond what is convenient and profitable for themselves.

It is moral conviction and ethical consciousness, at both individual and societal levels, that motivate individuals to sacrifice short-term gains for the common good.

Ethical teachings should be supported by legislation and effective enforcement of rules and prohibitions.

Conservation should be integrated with ecologically sustainable development through societal institutions.

Accurate information is essential for making informed decisions to protect the natural environment and prevent its degradation.

Development projects should not harm the natural environment of other countries, and local progress should not come at the expense of others.

The natural environment and natural resources should not suffer irreparable damage due to military or hostile actions.

Dr. Hussain Qadri also extended his congratulations to the entire organizing team of the 6th International Conference on World Religions.
