MSM holds Fifth Social Media Summit

Our identity is that of a Pakistani and follower of Islam. Before social media users come up with anything online, they should keep this in their mind that their posts don’t hurt the image of Islam and Pakistan.

President MQI Prof Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri made these remarks while delivering his keynote speech during the fifth Social Media Summit held under the banner of MSM here in Lahore. He said that verification and authentication are paramount in the code of conduct presented by Islam with regards to communication. He said that the spread of unverified news and views is against the teachings of Islam.

Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that social media is a reality of our times. He said that it is the responsibility of journalists and the right of the citizens that they are provided with authentic information. He said that the availability of credible knowledge in cyberspace is the biggest challenge. He asked the MQI social media users to become Mustafvi media users, adding that this precisely is the message and training of Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri.

President MQI said that letting craze for rating drive you and undermine the core values of humanity is unwise and uncalled for. He said that fake news, and disinformation leaves ill-effects on society and those indulging in such practices would be held to account for spreading hearsay on the Day of Judgment. He congratulated the office-holders of MSM for arranging purposeful, enlightening and educative Social Media Summit.

Central President MSM Sheikh Farhan Aziz said that MSM has regularly been hosting Social Media Summits to deal with the information challenge in contemporary times. He said that the purpose of holding these summits is to prepare the youths for the challenges of information wars and expose them to the ethical code of conduct in the use of modern communication technology.

The speakers who addressed the Summit included Noorullah Siddiqui, Hafiz Ahmad, Mian Imran Arshad, Rai Saqib Kharal, Aoun Ali Khosa, Shakir Awan, Ahmad Abubaker, Haider Mustafa, Mian Anser Mahmood, Usama Mushtaq and Hammad Mustafa.

The prominent participants of the Summit were Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Malik Saeed Alam, Syed Fraz Hashmi, Malik Imran, Rana Tajjamal Hussain, Owais Tahir, Imran Younis, Ayesha Mobashar, Umme Kalsoom Qamar, Irshad Iqbal, Batool Mushtaq, Maryam Iqbal, Aisha Siddiqua, and Inshrah Naveed.

A panel discussion also took place in the summit in which youtubers, Vlogers, senior journalists, and content writers briefed the youths about the technical aspects of the social media handling. They termed social media as a means of excellent conversation on issues of vital importance and congratulated MSM on holding the Summit for awareness of the youth.

The Social Media Summit was attended by the MSM office holders belonging to the central, provincial, district and local levels.
