Unending spate of terrorism, suicide bombings, extremist behaviours, shortage of necessities of life, skyrocketing price hike, and worst ever energy crisis were eating into the vitals of state and society. Revolutionary steps are required to find a lasting solution to these problems on an urgent basis. Instead of banking on external borrowings from the world financial institutions, the government needed to take steps that addressed deteriorating law and order situation in the country and calmed things down with a view to attracting foreign investment, a crucial and critical factor in the development of the country.

Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, founding leader and patron-in-chief of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, expressed these views while addressing the joint meeting of Central Working Council of PAT and MQI through video conferencing from Canada. He said that massive brain drain and flight of capital from Pakistan was a matter of serious concern for the rulers. There was a need to work out comprehensive strategy to counter the trend. He said that given the economic condition of the country, the country ill-afforded the wastage of national resources on the upkeep of political and bureaucratic elite. “Non-development should be curtailed and austerity measures adopted staring with the rulers of the day,” he stressed.
