Government urged to foil conspiracies against the federation of Pakistan

Acting Secretary General of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz, has said that such conditions are being created in NWFP and Balochistan, which could threaten the federation of Pakistan. The government should unearth all conspiracies and convene an All Parties Conference to ponder over the matter due to its urgency and relevance. He also asked the government to unveil the foreign hands in the ongoing wave of terrorism in the country and map out solid and comprehensive strategy to counter it. He said that Minhaj-ul-Quran International condemns the high profile killing of a renowned religious leader Dr Sarfraz Naeemi and it would organize condolence reference on June 23, 2009, to pay tribute to the services of Shaheed Dr Sarfraz Naeemi. The religious scholars and noted intellectuals will participate in the reference and throw light on the services of Dr Naeemi in diverse fields.

He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of senior journalists after a meeting of Executive Council of Pakistan Awami Tehreek and MQI. Acting Secretary General demanded of the government to make fool proof security arrangements of likely targets of terrorists especially religious, social and political leaders, shrines, public gatherings and educational institutions. The government should also undertake immediate steps to get rid of ignorance, unemployment and poverty in the backward especially tribal areas. He also said that political stability, independent judiciary, strong state institutions and the respect for the constitution could save us from all internal and external crises. All those factors that enable terrorists to recruit youth to their fold should be eliminated. This could be possible if arrangements for cheap and immediate justice, eradication of unemployment and law and order were made.

Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz said that Pakistani embassies and consulates should also act proactively to respond to the nefarious propaganda campaign against the country aimed at maligning Pakistan. He also urged all sections of national opinion like lawyers, journalists, intellectuals, teachers and traders to play their effective role in these troubling times.

Replying to a question about Swat affectees, Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz said that the government should also set up ‘rehabilitation fund’ on the pattern of ‘relief fund’ for successful rehabilitation of people belonging to Buner, Swat, Malakand. He said effective policy needed to be formulated for national unity and harmony. He urged to the government to ensure peace after the migrants return to their homes.

Commenting on the Budget 2009-10, acting Secretary General demanded that Budget Regulatory Authority should be set up to oversee the implementation of budget. Parliament should call to account all those government departments which did not act in accordance with the budget provisions of last year. There should be complete ban on the mini-budgets and increase in the prices of power, gas, oil and wheat should be made conditional on the approval by the parliament. He asked the parliament to declare the proposed hike in power rates by 17% as null and void. The government should cut down its non-development budget and impose heavy duty on luxury import items.
