Water crisis to hit economy hard: Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz
There is a dire need to expose Indian conspiracies, Indian-sponsored terrorism and water aggression against Pakistan. The enemies of Pakistan want to weaken her from inside by curtailing its breathing space and denting economy. The surge in terrorism is meant to obscure the issue of water terrorism in the country. The water bomb has all the potential to destroy Pakistan’s agriculture and economy. These views were expressed by Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz, acting Secretary General of Minhaj-ul-Quran International while talking to a delegation which called on him in his office.
He said that the Indian usurpation of the Pakistani water betrayed its true identity and was a case of clear violation of Indus Water Basin Treaty. World Bank, which is guarantor of the agreement, was doing nothing except paying lip service to the issue. Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz asked the government to understand the urgency of the issue and take it up at all the appropriate forums. He said there was also need to construct more and more dams of different sizes to take care of power problem on long-term basis. He said that ours was an agrarian country and the water crisis would break the back of farming community. “The government should show seriousness and sincerity of purpose in addressing this issue. The cooperation from the experts should also be sought,” he concluded.
