Sanctions against Tehran a bad diplomacy: Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri

Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, president of the Federal Council of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, has termed the United Nations Security Council’s imposition of sanctions on Iran as ‘a poor diplomacy’. In a statement issued by the Directorate of Media of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that the fourth round of fresh sanctions would only serve to harden the Iranian position with little chance to tame Tehran. He said that there was no certification from the nuclear watchdog, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), that Iran was undertaking nuclear enrichment for purposes other than peaceful. He said that at a time when the entire world is facing energy crunch, engaging Iran in a multiple cooperative framework would have been the best course of action to adopt. ‘It is by enhancing the stakes in one another that the global community can expect to find solution to the festering issues. The policy of isolation is a bad diplomacy to put it mildly,’ he said.

Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that the Turkey’s proposal of fuel swap, requiring Tehran to ship the bulk of its low enriched uranium to Turkey for safekeeping until the delivery of equivalent mass of nuclear fuel to it, made sense in the prevailing polarised situation. He also asked Tehran to assuage the fears of the international community regarding its nuclear programme through establishment of more transparent mechanism.
