Daily The News: People’s parliament to appoint caretaker PM: Qadri

LAHORE: Tehreek-e-Minhajul Quran (TMQ) Chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri on Sunday said that the caretaker prime minister would be appointed by the people’s parliament and asked the army to reject the PPP-led coalition government’s orders to stop their Jan 14 march on Islamabad.

Addressing an international workers’ convention at the Model Town here, Qadri said becoming the caretaker prime minister was not on his agenda, as his status was millions of times bigger than that of any prime minister. He said his mission was to please Almighty Allah, restore real democracy in the country and bring smiles to the faces of the people.

He said that four million people would converge on parliament on Jan 14. The TMQ chief reiterated that he was not a candidate for the office of caretaker premier, but he would not let anyone sabotage his agenda of electoral reforms.

Qadri further said he would not allow corruption to continue in national politics. “Gone are the days when people would enter the corridors of power on the basis of their wealth and influence,” he said, adding, “I will announce my plan to end corruption on January 14.”

The TMQ chief said he would not allow a handful of the privileged elite to loot national resources belonging to the 180 million people of Pakistan.

“There’s no justification for the existence of huge mansions like the President House, the PM House, the governor houses and the CM houses in a country where people are committing suicides due to unemployment and hunger. The masses are aware of their rights and determined to put an end to the plunder through a peaceful and democratic struggle,” said Qadri.

Online adds: Dr Tahirul Qadri thanked those who supported him during the December 23 public rally at the Minar-e-Pakistan. The journey to a democratic revolution had started on Dec 23, he added.

He asked the armed forces to take responsibility for the security of the participants of the Jan. 14 march on Islamabad. He said he had donated the jewellery of his wife, daughter and daughter-in-law to meet the expenses of the Jan. 14 march.
