Judiciary’s role increasing due to inefficient Parliament: Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri

PAT Chairman Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has said that it took us four and a half years to get the right of a fair investigation into the Model town carnage. He said the more efficient and neutral a country’s judicial system is, the more prosperous such a country will be. He said that we are grateful to Chief Justice Saqib Nisar for hearing our petition and ordering the constitution of a new JIT to probe the Model Town tragedy afresh, stating that we express our best wishes for him on his retirement.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri asked as to who will respect a Parliament on whose floor those responsible for mega corruption and killings will speak. He said that the Parliament has insignificant role, whereas the responsibilities of the judiciary have increased manifold.

Dr Qadri made these remarks while talking to the senior leaders yesterday. He would leave abroad on a short organizational tour tonight and return to the country by mid-February.

The PAT Chairman expressed his satisfaction on the fact that the newly constituted JIT has started its work. He said that it consists of the officers of good reputation, stating that whosoever of the PAT witnesses it will summon, they will appear before it. He said that justice is the most important objective in our sight. He said that a country where individuals are stronger than the institutions, you cannot have the respect for human rights there. He said that in such dire circumstances, judiciary happens to be the last ray of hope for the teeming millions.

Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri said that it is unfortunate that the difference between a mafia and a politician has come to an end. He said that those sitting inside the Parliament have inflicted the greatest loss on the institution and eroded its credibility through their actions and corruption. He said that the powerful people used to provide patronage and support to the mafias previously and now they have become their part. The top courts have to mention their role and background in their decisions.

Dr Qadri said that the race for power has been continuing in the country with the result that protection of the public interest has become a secondary thing on the priority list. He said that the Band-Aid approach to curing the ills that plague the body politic will not work, stating that it is through overhauling the system that cancer of corruption and terrorism will be eliminated. He said that everyone and even the institutions are speaking up against the system but no one appears to be interested in taking the practical steps. He said that even if the experiments are carried out for next 70 years, we will not be able to have any different results. He said that those who should be in jails are delivering speeches in the Parliament. He said that no one will extend any respect to a Parliament that is manned by the corrupt people. He said that legal formality is one thing but morality is equally important as well. He further said that we do not have the crisis due to absence of laws but due to lack of their implementation.
