Army has no role behind PTI, PAT marches: Qadri

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) head Dr Tahir-ul Qadri called for the trial of rulers for treason over suspension of constitutional clauses relating to rights of people.

Addressing the participants of Azadi and Inqilab marches from Imran Khan’s container for the first time on Tuesday, Qadri said that first 40 clauses of the Constitution regarding rights of humans remain suspended.

“We too stand by democracy. We are backing the constitution which is not being implemented by rulers,” he said. The constitution guarantees education, employment, health and employment to every citizen, he said. “We are here to ensure implementation of these clauses.”

Same rulers have been coming into power time and again for the last 41 years, he stated.

He said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had himself pledged to resign if found guilty by judicial commission. The judicial commission has now blamed the Punjab government for Model Town incident. “Shahbaz Sharif has now refused to resign. Is this constitution?” Qadri said.

The PAT leader again distanced himself from yesterday’s attack on Pakistan Television. “There was no plan to storm the building of PTV. We disown and condemn it,” he added.

He rejected allegations that army was backing Awami Tehreek. “I declare under oath that I have never met army chief.”
