Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, chairman of WAAG Pakistan Branch, participated in an interfaith moot in Haus am Dom, Frankfurt, Germany on May 31, 2010. This was a multi-cultural event with participants’ ranging from different cultures and faiths. Participants included Dieter Heesemann, head of the Evangelical Church, Frankfurt; Rainer Frisch, Pastor of the Frankfurter Cathedral; head of the Frankfurt Police Department, Andreas Kubin; Dagobert Ossa head of the Buddhist Organization, Germany as well as notable parliamentarians and council leaders. The event began with a welcome address by Dr Brigitta Sassin who outlined the need to form a partnership to defeat the forces of extremism and terrorism. While speaking on the issue, Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that the world was passing through a critical phase and there was a greater need for communities and civilizations to engage with one another. He said that terrorism and extremism emanated from a perverse and bigoted mindset and unless these mindsets were reformed, such scourges would continue. He further stated that Islam espoused peace and harmony and those who invoked the fair name of Islam to justify their actions were in fact enemies of Islam. Indeed one of the primary aims of Shaykh al-Azhar, Dr Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad al-Tayyab and Shaykh-ul-Islam, Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri is to foster better understanding between Islam and other religions. Today’s event was testament to the fact this could be achieved and the need of today requires scholars to promote what is best in all religions.
