Socio-economic inequality one of our biggest challenges: Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri

Addressing an All-Pakistan inter-collegiate speech contest held under the banner of COSIS, MQI President Dr Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri said that two Pakistans have come into being in the country created by the Quaid-e-Azam after decades-old struggle. He said that on the one hand are the poor who do not have the financial capacity to purchase medicine and are forced to administer poison to their children, there is the rich elite on the other whose children study in the elite private schools that charge them hundreds of thousands of rupees. He said that as long as this rotten system stays intact, inequality will continue to grow. He said that the people will have to decide how much injustice and oppression they have to suffer. He underlined the need of eliminating political and economic divide in the society.

Former education minister of Punjab Imran Masood, PTI leader Ijaz Chaudhry, PPP leader Barrister Amir Farooq, senior journalist Hamid Waleed, Dr Mumtaz-ul-Hassan, Major (r) Muhammad Ahmad Khan, and Principal of the Minhaj Girls College Dr Samar Fatima also spoke on the occasion.

Speaking to the ceremony, Ijaz Chaudhry said that the country did not get honest leadership after Quaid-e-Azam. He said that those who have been building coal power plants instead of dams will become the combustible material of hell for neglecting the nations’ future needs and their faces will be blackened due to their sin of looting the country.

Former minister Imran Masood said that he paid rich tributes to the families of the Model Town martyrs who did not allow the moneyed and powerful people to browbeat them into submission. He said that they remained steadfast and did not budge an inch from their stand of seeking justice. He said that the politics of vested interest in the name of saving democracy and country should be put an end to. He said that we stand by Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri and appreciate his services to Islam.

Barrister Amir Farooq stated that militancy, and extremism are a consequence of corruption, nepotism and unequal structure of society with the result that the future of succeeding generations was compromised. He said that Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri served the humanity by authoring Fatwa on suicide bombings. He said that his slogan is not just ‘love live Bhutto’ but ‘long live Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri’ as well.

Senior journalist Hamid Waleed said that the process of reform of the system is underway today. He said that there is a broad consensus that every Article of the Constitution should be implemented in letter and spirit. He said that the sacrifices rendered for improvement and reform in the system will not go in vain, adding that despite inhospitable circumstances, the country is moving forward and the purge continues to take place.

The prizes were distributed among the position winning students at the end of the ceremony.
