Vision, Knowledge, and Character – Tahir-ul-Qadri and the Minhaj-ul-Quran Legacy

The International Conference on Islamic Economics and Finance, held on 24th and 25th January at Minhaj-ul-Quran University, Lahore, proved to be far more than a routine academic event. The conference represented the continuation of a long-standing intellectual and visionary journey initiated decades ago under the leadership of Shaykh ul Islam Professor Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri.
Renowned scholars from Malaysia, Australia, Iran, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Qatar, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye presented in-depth research papers, offering practical and forward-looking solutions to economic challenges faced by Muslim countries. The diversity and depth of academic discourse reflected Minhaj-ul-Quran University’s growing stature as a global center for research, dialogue, and intellectual leadership.
Minhaj-ul-Quran’s educational legacy is deeply rooted in a holistic model that combines religious scholarship, modern education, and character building. Under the direct supervision of Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri, students have historically been trained to maintain strict discipline, spiritual depth, and intellectual sharpness. Regular prayers, ethical conduct, and academic rigor have remained core elements of student life.
Alongside traditional Islamic sciences, the institution pioneered practical training in Arabic, Persian, and English, a revolutionary approach at the time. Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri consistently promoted inter-sect harmony, rejected extremism, and presented Islam as a religion of peace, balance, and humanity on international platforms—well before such narratives became mainstream.
The establishment of HEC-recognized Minhaj-ul-Quran University stands as the realization of Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri’s long-cherished vision. Today, the university is setting new academic benchmarks by integrating modern disciplines with Islamic thought and research-based learning.
Despite societal challenges, misinformation, and persistent criticism, Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri has remained steadfast in his mission. Through Minhaj-ul-Quran’s global platforms, he has contributed significantly to education, social welfare, employment generation, and the promotion of a soft, intellectual image of Islam worldwide.
The successful organization of this international conference is a clear manifestation of that enduring vision. It not only preserves Minhaj-ul-Quran’s distinguished legacy but also actively shapes the future through global academic engagement and research-driven dialogue.
