Dr Tahir ul Qadri begins long march for electoral reforms

Staff Report

LAHORE: Dr Tahir ul Qadri’s million-man march set off from Lahore on Sunday afternoon towards Islamabad, SAMAA reports.

Terming it as ‘democracy march’, Qadri said it is a battle between oppressors and oppressed. He pledged that he would return only after ousting the rulers.

Commencing his march, he again unveiled his charter of demands, demanding installation of a caretaker setup and electoral reforms.

In his criticism, he was particularly severe on the Punjab government, saying Takht-e-Lahore had crossed all limits of creating hurdles. The provincial government, meanwhile, rejected the allegations.

He also called for the removal of the Balochsitan government.

Dr. Qadri is leading hundreds of buses, cars and private vehicles.

On the other hand, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) suspended cell phone services in several parts of Lahore apparently over security reasons. The PTA said that mobile phone service had been suspended due to the long march.

Speaking to media, Awami Muslim League (AML) leader Sheikh Rashid announced that he would welcome the marchers in Rawalpindi. SAMAA
