Those who spend their days and nights in the remembrance of Allah, Allah awards them with his friendship according to his divine status. Shaykh Hammad Mustafa Al-qadri
Introduction:
In the spiritual journey of a believer, reverence (Adab) serves as the foundation of faith. It is not merely a social etiquette but a divine mandate established by Allah سبحانه وتعالى to honor those who are close to Him. This blog explores why the love for the Prophet’s household and the respect for his companions are inseparable parts of a Muslim's identity.
The Divine Command of Reverence:
Allah سبحانه وتعالى has placed supreme importance on the reverence of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ). This respect is not limited to the Prophet (ﷺ) alone but extends to his household (Ahl al-Bayt), his noble companions (Sahaba), and even to our own parents and teachers. By practicing this adab, we acknowledge the sanctity of the roles these individuals play in our spiritual lives.
Loving the Ahl al-Bayt: A Quranic Obligation:
The Holy Quran explicitly mentions that the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) was commanded by Allah to ask for no compensation for his message, except one thing: the love and honor of his family. This makes the reverence of the Ahl al-Bayt a fundamental requirement of our Deen. To love the household of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) is to fulfill a direct command of Allah and to show gratitude to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ).
The Essential Status of the Blessed Sahaba:
Just as the Ahl al-Bayt are honored, the respect and honor of the blessed companions (Sahaba) of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) is essential and fundamental to our religion. The Sahaba were the primary students of the Quran and the first to practice the “Adab” of the Prophet (ﷺ). They maintained the utmost respect, never violating the sanctity of his presence, and taught us how to truly honor the personality of the Messenger (ﷺ).
Divine Protection for the Friends of Allah:
Reverence also extends to the righteous servants (Awliya) who spend their days and nights in the remembrance of Allah. In a Hadith-e-Qudsi mentioned in Sahih Bukhari, Allah declares, “Whoever opposes my friend, my righteous servant... I declare war upon this person” This highlights the grave importance of respecting those whom Allah has selected and awarded with His friendship.
Distinguishing Worship from Reverence:
It is vital to understand that while worship (Ibadah) is exclusively for Allah سبحانه وتعالى, reverence is a command He has given us for His chosen ones. Prophets, messengers, and righteous servants are awarded this honor by virtue of their proximity and favor from Allah. Honoring them is, in reality, a way of honoring the One who chose them.
Conclusion:
The message is clear: the path to Allah سبحانه وتعالى is paved with the reverence of those He loves. True faith requires a balance where worship is reserved solely for the Creator, while the heart is filled with profound love for the Ahl al-Bayt and deep respect for the Sahaba. By following the example of the companions in their “Adab” and adhering to the Quranic injunction to love the Holy Prophet’s family, we safeguard our spiritual connection to the Divine.
