LAHORE: The Chairman of Tehreek-e-Minhaj-ul-Quran, Dr Tahirul Qadri, has said his agenda is restoration of democracy and the Constitution and no force can block the people’s march on Islamabad on January 14.
Speaking at a reception for senior journalists on Friday, Qadri, also a former MNA of 2002, said he wanted an interim government under which institutions and parties outside parliament should also be included in the consultation process.
Qadri said democracy in Pakistan had been derailed and he wanted to put it back on track. “Two million people have filed a petition in the Supreme Court after gathering at the Minar-e-Pakistan and we have complete confidence in the judiciary,” he added. He said the interim government should be given absolute authority so that it could implement the suspended clauses of the Constitution before holding free and fair polls.
He said elections without reforms would be a replay of the last polls. “I will not make any deal on the interest of the country and the process of election reforms would not benefit an individual but all parties.”
Qadri said massive corruption of Rs 5,000 billion annually continued and what was left if rather than blocking the way of the menace, the rulers targeted the NAB chairman and parliament was silent over it. He said January 14 would turn over a new leaf in the history of the country and a peaceful march would conclude after the fulfillment of demands. To a question, he said the march to eliminate the corrupt system was the constitutional right of the people.
