All banners removed from Pindi
As the Islamabad administration has placed containers and other barriers to stop the long march of Tahir-ul-Qadri, chief of Tehrik Minhaj-ul-Quran, from entering the capital, the city district government of Rawalpindi on its part on Saturday removed all kind of party banners and pamphlets of TMQ pasted on walls from all parts of the city.
The staff belonging to Tehsil Municipal Administration, Rawal and Potohar Town assigned on the task to remove banners and pictures besides pamphlets of Tahir-ul-Qadri from entire Benazir Bhutto Road and other major parts of the city, including Saddar, Liaquat Road, Raja Bazaar, etc on condition of anonymity told that they were doing on the orders of the high ups including commissioner and DCO of Rawalpindi. “Let us carry our job,” they pleaded. When this correspondent tried to get comments from Commissioner Rawalpindi Imdad ullah Bosal and DCO Rawalpindi about arrangements, he got no response from their phones.
However, MNA Shakil Awan confirmed that no hurdles or blockades have been created to stop long march. He denied that banners and posters of Tahir-ul-Qadri have been removed from all parts of the city. “Rather my portraits and banners have been removed from Benazir Bhutto Bhutto,” Shakil Awan claimed.
Similarly, the Punjab chief minister has issued no instructions in this regard including creating hurdles or laying barriers in the way of long march from entering Rawalpindi. Rather, 7,000 security personnel have been deputed to avert and prevent any untoward incident. However, the Punjab government would not take any responsibility of security to the chief of Tehrik Minhaj-ul-Quran.
When sought his comments whether the people would support Tahir-ul-Qadri and make his long march a grand success and historic, Shakil Awan told that after refusal by Altaf Hussain to participate, the chief of TMQ is now finding excuses how to give up the plan. He would not be able to continue the long march because of lack of support and response of the people and political parties.
Talking about salient features of agenda presented by Tahir-ul-Qadri including reformation of Election Commission, the PML leader said that Qadri is running an NGO as such he has no right to intervene in political matters and make demands.
To a question related to Sheikh Rashid’s plan to back Tahir-ul-Qadri if any untoward situation occurs, Shakil claimed that how could he take people along with him when he doesn’t enjoy support of his own family members now. “Politics of Sheikh Rashid is over. He is now waiting for any dictatorial rule for joining that government,” Shakil Awan alleged. If Sheikh Rashid had the support of people then why all his public meetings particularly with Imran Khan in Liaquat Bagh failed totally, the PML-N leader questioned.
