Laylat al-Qadr is the Night of Abundant Divine Mercy — Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri

Founder and Patron-in-Chief of Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, has said that Laylat al-Qadr is a night marked by the boundless descent of Allah’s mercy, blessings, and favors, and it is a special gift from Allah Almighty to the Ummah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. It was on this blessed night that the Holy Qur’an was revealed, and worship performed during it is considered superior to that of a thousand months.
He expressed these views while addressing the sixth moral and spiritual session held at the central secretariat of Minhaj-ul-Quran International on the theme “The Noble Character of the Holy Prophet ﷺ” on the occasion of the 27th night of Ramadan.
Shaykh-ul-Islam said that Laylat al-Qadr is a golden opportunity for a believer to attain forgiveness, closeness to Allah, and spiritual elevation. On this night, the faithful should devote themselves sincerely to worship, recitation of the Qur’an, remembrance of Allah, supplication, and self-accountability in order to benefit from divine mercy.
He added that the 27th night offers a precious chance to revive hearts with the remembrance of Allah, repent from sins, and fill one’s inner self with love, compassion, and goodness. On this night, Allah’s mercy reaches its peak, and those who seek from Him are never deprived.
Speaking on the blessed life (Seerah) of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri said that the entire life of the Holy Prophet ﷺ is a perfect model of truthfulness, trustworthiness, compassion, love, and noble character. Hazrat Khadijah al-Kubra (RA) also highlighted these great qualities, particularly emphasizing his truthfulness (Sidq al-Hadith), meaning that he always spoke the truth.
He explained that truthfulness is not limited to speaking the truth; rather, it is the complete harmony between a person’s inner and outer self, heart and tongue, and actions. Truthfulness strengthens an individual’s character and fosters trust within society, whereas falsehood creates inner anxiety and restlessness.
He further noted that, according to sociologists, trust is the greatest asset of any society, and the life of the Holy Prophet ﷺ is a shining example of this—so much so that even before the declaration of Prophethood, the people of Makkah referred to him as Al-Sadiq (the truthful) and Al-Amin (the trustworthy).
The session was attended by Chairman Supreme Council Minhaj-ul-Quran International Dr. Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, President Minhaj-ul-Quran International Prof. Dr. Hussain Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, Khurram Nawaz Gandapur, Dr. Ghazala Qadri, Fizza Hussain Qadri, Shaykh Muhammad Aslam Qadri, Haji Abdul Ghafoor Qadri, along with scholars, leaders of the movement, representatives of various forums, and a large number of members of the public.
