On Monday the 22nd June, the first Monday of the blessed Holy month of Ramadan, a Zikr Mehfil was held at the Minhaj Woman’s League Halifax centre where all of the participants gathered to recite the holy Quran to send collective blessings and Duas for the martyrs of Model Town, Lahore, one year ago on June 17.
A gathering was organized by MWL Nelson to observe the first anniversary of those martyred in the Model Town tragedy in Lahore. The programme was held at Minhaj-ul-Quran Centre Carr Road Nelson on 22 June 2015 as mark of respect in memory of those mercilessly massacred on the 17 June 2014.
For the first time, a mainstream scholar Shaykh-ul-Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri has taken the initiative to confront ISIS and other terrorist groups head on using the texts which the terror groups misuse to brainwash, radicalise and recruit young Muslims. Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri has worked tirelessly to challenge attacks on Islam and Muslims throughout his life. In 2015, he has authored more than 10 new English books to present the true image of Islam and to counter extremism and to promote peace and love.
Last weekend, 50 young British Muslims converged to the leafy surroundings of Kidderminster to be trained for counter-extremism work. Their purpose was to learn how to weed out emergent religious extremism from its ideological and theological roots, and therefore to prevent young people from being brainwashed into leaving their homes to join barbaric terrorist groups abroad. I, along with the other organisers, have watched with some sense of bewilderment and a deep sense of sadness as seemingly academically bright boys and girls and young adults elope to the Middle East as potential jihadi brides or would-be jihadi Johns.

Sahibzada Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani has said that we have put the teachings of the Sufis at the backburner and that is why we have deviated from the path of guidance. He said that these are the teachings of the Sufis alone, which can save us from going astray. He said that it is not possible to protect one’s faith in the present age without having some connection with the saints and Sufis, adding that the love of Allah’s friends and Sufis is the stepping stone that takes one to the love of the Holy Prophet (SAW).

The Conference has two-pronged objective; to promote efforts for understanding of the Holy Quran at individual and collective levels and to encourage the women research scholars by acknowledging their services and contributions.
Another guest of the event was respected Sumaira Faisal from Belgium, President of Women European Council, who beautifully spoke about the auspicious events of Shab-e-Meraj. She shed light on the virtues of the great night and explained that Allah (SWT) performed a great miracle by blessing the Holy Prophet (SAW) with this meeting in the heavens. It was at a time when the Holy Prophet (SAW) was grief stricken due to the passing away of his beloved wife Hazrat Khadijah (RA) and his uncle Hazrat Abu Talib (RA).
