The top Muslim scholar has launched a potent new weapon in the war on terror - a 600-page document arguing against violence in the name of Islam. Qadri, who is based in Toronto, believes his religious order, or fatwa, banning suicide bombings and other terrorist acts will save American lives.

Ever since the influential Muslim scholar Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri last month issued a 600-page fatwa, or religious ruling, condemning terror, he has been at the center of international discussions about Islam, Al-Qaeda, and the morality of suicide bombings. Qadri is the founding leader of Minhaj ul Qur'an International, a worldwide organization which promotes education in the Islamic sciences.

Fatwa against terrorism
The 52nd monthly spiritual gathering of Gosha-a-Durood for April 2010 under the aegis of Minhaj-ul-Quran International was held on April 1, 2010. Miskin Faiz-ur-Rehman Durrani, central Amir-e-Tehreek, presided over the programme, whereas the distinguished audience included Dr Raheeq Ahmad Abbasi, Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz, Rana Muhammad Idrees Qadri, Rana Farooq Ahmad, Haji Muhammad Saleem Qadri, Ahmad Nawaz Anjum, Jawad Hamid, Dr Tanvir Azam Sandhu, Haji Riaz Ahmad and other leaders of MQI. A large number of participants including men and women attended the programme.
One agrees wholeheartedly with the landmark fatwa of Dr Tahirul Qadri against terrorism, suicide bombing, mutiny or rebellion against the state, all being tantamount to creating divisions amongst the Ummah.

Muhammad Tahir ul-Qadri's Canadian locale is not widely known by his followers, most of whom are in Pakistan. Qadri, who recently spoke out in the United Kingdom against suicide bombings, left the Muslim world for Canada five years ago.
I have been compelled to issue a fatwa – a comprehensive theological refutation of Islamist terrorism – because of what has been happening in Pakistan over the past year. Terrorists are bombing mosques during Friday prayers, they are burning schools, killing women. They are digging bodies out of graves, cutting off their heads and hanging the bodies from trees.

The First Secretary, Head of Cultural Section, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Islamabad, Katharina Lack paid a visit to Minhaj University, Lahore. The visit lasted for about three hours. She held meetings with the Vice Chancellor, Deans and Officers of the University and informed the participants about the educational assistance various agencies in Germany can provide to this seat of learning.
