Muhammad Ashraf Uppal, a senior leader of MQI and father of MQI Secretary General Denmark Muhammad Bilal Uppal, breathed his last on April 16, 2009 in Denmark. His funeral prayer was offered in front of central Mosque Minhaj-ul-Quran International, Lahore, on April 19, 2009. Central Amir of MQI, Faiz-ur-Rahman Durrani, led the funeral prayers.

Sardar Asif Ahmad Ali; former foreign minister of Pakistan and presently Deputy Chairman Planning Commission; Samina Khalid Ghurki, Federal Minister; Marvi Memon MNA, Khushbakhat Shujaat MNA, Parveen Gul, Secretary General of Pakistan Women Hockey Federation, Sajida Mir MPA, Imbisat Khan MPA, Asma Mamdot MPA, Majida Zaidi MPA, Sohaib Khan Niazi and Deeba Mirza MPAs would participate in the ceremony.
Hundreds of Muslims visited the Redgum Function Centre in Wentworthville, Sydney , Australia on Saturday, 11th of April 2009, for a prestigious celebration conference to mark the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The Birth Day is celebrated by millions of Muslims around the world via recitation of Naat and programmes of Mawlid-un-Nabi (SAW). The day is a national holiday in Syria , Libya , Egypt , Morocco and Pakistan among other countries and is traditionally referred to as Mawlid al-Nabi.
The National Peace Conference was held on April 9, 2009 under the auspices of Minhaj-ul-Quran International and Pakistan Awami Tehreek. The conference was attended by 150 representatives of various political and religious parties, welfare organizations, and other organizations representing different classes of society in addition to lawyers, religious scholars, students, journalists and traders. A joint programme of Great Gyarhaween Sharif and death anniversary of Qudwa-tul-Aulia Sayyidna Pir Tahir Alla-ud-Din al-Qadri al-Gillani (RA) was held on April 8, 2009 on Wednesday in the Darbar-e-Ghausia Baghdad Town (Township), Lahore, which was presided over by the son of Qudwa-tul-Aulia and MPA, Pir Sayyid Abdul Qadir Jamal-ud-Din al-Qadri al-Gillani.
The son of Qudwa-tul-Aulia Sayyidna Tahir Alla-ud-Din al-Qadri al-Gillani and member of National Assembly, Pir Sayyid Abdul Qadir Jamal-ud-Din al-Qadri al-Gillani visited the central secretariat of Minhaj-ul-Quran International on April 7, 2009. It was his usual visit after arrival in Lahore. A delegation of MQI led by Naib Nazim-e-Ala, Sheikh Zahid Fayyaz welcomed the respected guest upon his arrival in the secretariat. He was garlanded and rose petals were showered on him.
The Vice Chancellor of Minhaj University, Prof Dr Nazir Ahmad Romani, breathed his last on April 2, 2009. Dr Romani had a distinguished career in the educational field and served as Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan and the Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad before assuming his responsibility of Vice Chancellor of Minhaj University Lahore.
Hundreds of women belonging to Minhaj-ul-Quran Women League held a protest demonstration against public lashing of a girl in Swat in front of the Lahore Press Club on April 4, 2009. The protesters condemned this reprehensible, cruel and immoral act in the strongest possible words. Women were holding placards and demanded of the government to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice. Central MWL president, Fatima Mash’hadi led the procession.
